Description
ZMA is an acronym for 'Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate', otherwise known as 'Zinc, Magnesium Aspartate and Vitamin B6'. As the name suggests, these tablets are formulated with the following ingredients; Zinc, Magnesium and Vitamin B6. The three ingredients have a beneficial relationship with each other, promoting active recovery after exercise.
Benefits
Zinc
Our ZMA tablets use Zinc Citrate as the source of Zinc. Each serving contains 20mg of elemental Zinc which is available for the body to absorb. We absorb an average of 15mg of Zinc each day depending on the amount of Zinc-rich foods we eat, although the body stores around 2.5g of Zinc in total. The Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) of Zinc is 9.5mg for men and 7mg for women daily.
Our bodies require Zinc as the mineral is an antioxidant which protects cells from the stress caused by free radicals. Zinc is also needed for macronutrient (carbohydrates, protein and fat) metabolism which promotes the synthesis of energy and may lead to faster recovery post-exercise. In addition, Zinc contributes to normal testosterone levels in the blood, plays a role in cell division and aids cognitive function.
Magnesium
Our ZMA tablets use Magnesium Aspartate, a type of Magnesium. One serving size (two of our tablets) contains 300mg of elemental Magnesium which meets Public Health England's recommend daily consumption of Magnesium at 300mg for men and 270mg for women. Magnesium is widely distributed among dietary sources, including almonds, cashews, legumes, pumpkin seeds and wholegrain bread. Green leafy vegetables are also good natural sources of Magnesium, including Swiss chard and spinach. Magnesium has many benefits which particularly aid those with an active lifestyle. For instance, Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue by aiding the production of energy. The mineral is also required for the normal synthesis of protein which aids muscle function and recovery. Additionally, Magnesium is needed for normal electrolyte balance which may be unbalanced after periods of intense exercise. Finally, Magnesium contributes to the normal function of the nervous system which is important for muscle contraction.
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin that occurs in three forms; Pyridoxine, Pyridoxamine and Pyridoxal. Our ZMA tablets are formulated with the Pyridoxine form of Vitamin B6, containing 7mg of vitamin B6 in each serving. This vitamin is naturally found in several foods including pork, poultry, fish, bread, wholegrain cereals, egg yolks, peanuts and cow's milk. The primary function of Vitamin B6 is to yield energy which reduces feelings of fatigue. The vitamin also contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity including homocysteine metabolism, in addition to glycogen and protein metabolism.
