Description

What is Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin?
Vitamin B12 is available in a number of forms including Methylcobalamin, Adenosylcobalamin, Hydroxycobalamin and Cyanocobalamin.

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that was discovered in the early 20th century after scientists researched the causes of pernicious anaemia, the deficiency condition of Vitamin B12. The vitamin is naturally found in animal-based foods, such as red meat, fish, poultry, pork, eggs and dairy. Due to its animal origins, Vitamin B12 is often fortified in plant-based products, including some bread and plant-based milk. Those following a plant-based diet and high-risk groups of the population (the older adult, the young and those recovering from an operation) are more prone to Vitamin B12 deficiency. Symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency can take several years to appear as we can store up to 4 years worth of Vitamin B12 in our bodies. Low levels of Vitamin B12 cause your Folate levels to drop, hence why it is often difficult to fix the underlying deficiency.

supplies both the Methylcobalamin and Cyanocobalamin forms of Vitamin B12 - this tablet contains Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin. The type of Vitamin B12 in question is one of the forms that naturally occurs in the body, and contains a methyl group (1 carbon molecule and 2 hydrogen molecules). Both forms of Vitamin B12 that offer is absorbed in the body slightly differently.
