Description
Our Skin, Hair and Nails tablets include a formulation of Grape Seed extract, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Biotin and Selenium.
Benefits
Grape Seed extract
Our Grape Seed extract is sourced from the Vitis vinifera, more colloquially known as the vine that produces the Grape. The plant is a woody vine, its tendrils growing to 18m. The vine has been cultivated for around 8,000 years for various purposes with its most well-known transformation into wine. The primary active ingredients in this Grape extract are Grape Antioxidant Dietary Fibre (GADF) and Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin Complexes (OPC). These two ingredients have antioxidative properties which protect the tissues and cells from free radicals, harmful substances. These antioxidants are suggested to target the skin, improving its appearance.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, available in two forms: retinol and beta-carotene. The former type is generally found in foods of animal origin and the latter occurs naturally in plant-based food sources. Our Skin, Hair and Nails tablets contain 1,000mcg retinol which contributes to normal skin.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is widely acknowledged by many for its deficiency disease, scurvy. The vitamin was first knowingly discovered in 1535 when a French ship was stranded in Canada and Native Americans provided the crew with soaked bark from a local tree, curing their outbreak of Scurvy. However, it wasn't until 1747 when James Lind discovered the cure of scurvy using citrus fruits; Vitamin C. This water-soluble vitamin benefits the formation of collagen which aids normal skin and teeth, as it is the most abundant protein in our bodies. The vitamin also plays a role in the regeneration of Vitamin E, another ingredient that is included in our Skin, Hair and Nails formula.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin, discovered and isolated in the 1930s. Good food sources of the vitamin include vegetable oils (such as sunflower oil), almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, fortified breakfast cereals, fruit juices and green leafy vegetables such as spinach and broccoli. Like Vitamin C, Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant which protects cells from damage caused by free radicals. The nutrient contributes to the health of the skin, hair and nails.
Biotin
Biotin has had several names in the past, including Coenzyme R and Vitamin H (H stood for Haar und Haut in German, meaning 'hair and skin'). Nowadays, Biotin is referred to as Vitamin 7. Besides being essential for the normal functioning of the nervous system, Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, skin and mucous membranes.
Selenium
The Selenium included in these tablets is an inorganic form of Selenium, the type of Selenium that is found in the soil. The mineral forms part of the natural structure of Brazil nuts, mushrooms, garlic and brown rice and can be found in these foods in high quantities, although Selenium is available in any plant grown, or animal grazed on selenium-rich soil. Selenium is known to contribute to the normal health of hair and nails.
