Description

Origins of Dong Quai
Dong Quai is a small perennial plant, growing up to 3ft in height and producing clusters of white flowers. The plant is native to China and Japan, growing well in high altitude regions. The plant belongs to the Apiacacae family and is traditionally used in China for women's health. The name translates to 'state of return' in Mandarin.

The root is the most popular part of the plant as it provides the most nutritional benefits. Dong Quai is typically prepared in teas and tinctures, usually with other herbs to accompany it. Dong Quai is botanically known as Angelica sinensis, a name which came about from an old Chinese folktale where an angel appeared to a monk in a dream and told him to use Dong Quai to cure the plague that had spread throughout the country.
