Description
Collagen is the main protein found in the bodys connective tissue, and is made up of amino acids bound together. The name Collagen comes from the Greek ????? (klla), meaning glue, and suffix -???, -gen, meaning producing. The protein has been used to aid bone grafts and tissue regeneration. Vitamin C is a compound naturally found in many fruits and vegetables - particularly citrus fruits. In addition, Hyaluronic acid is an important component of articular cartilage and skin.
Benefits
Origins
The molecular structures of collagen were first discovered in the mid-1930s. This has led to subsequent decades of research on how Collagen is formed within the body.
Vitamin C has been used for centuries medicinally, but was only properly discovered in the 20th Century, and Albert Szent-Gyrgyi was awarded the 1937 Nobel Prize for isolating the vitamin from its natural sources. It was the first vitamin to be chemically produced.
Hyaluronic acid is derived from the Greek hyalos, meaning glass-like. Like Collagen, it was only discovered recently (in medical terms) by Karl Meyer and John Palmer in 1934. It has been used in eye surgery, and is also found in many skincare products.
