The Aloe Vera plant is popular in many botanical gardens, with increasing prevalence within the domestic household. The first written report that includes this plant originates from 6,000 years ago in Egypt. The Aloe Vera plant is a succulent and belongs to the 'lily' family. There are over 500 species of aloe, spread throughout Africa, the Middle East and several islands in the Indian Ocean. It has been suggested that Aloe vera may support gastrointestinal and menstrual health, as well as bowel function.
